The Great Harmony
Across two centuries, a small group of composers architected the structures, language, and ambitions of classical music.
Some perfected what existed. Some tore it apart.

Johann Sebastian Bach
Western classical music didn’t evolve gently; it was dragged forward by a handful of composers who rewired how music worked.
Johann Sebastian Bach sits at the foundation. He didn’t invent harmony or counterpoint, but he systematized them so completely that they became the grammar of Western music. His work treats music like architecture: logical, dense, and structurally inevitable. Even composers who rejected Bach were still arguing with him.

Joseph Haydn
Joseph Haydn comes next as the great organizer. He more or less invented the modern symphony and string quartet, not by accident but by relentless experimentation.
Haydn established form as something elastic but reliable—sonata form especially—giving later composers a framework sturdy enough to stretch or break. Without Haydn, “classical style” wouldn’t really exist as a thing to react against.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart took Haydn’s structures and filled them with humanity. His influence isn’t about technique alone. It’s about balance.
Mozart proved that complexity didn’t have to sound complex, and that emotional depth didn’t require heaviness. His operas, in particular, changed how music could portray character and psychology, setting a standard that still feels modern.

Ludwig van Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven shattered the polite boundaries of the Classical era. He kept the forms he inherited but stressed them, pushing them until they cracked. Something larger and more personal left his mind and entered the ears of the world.
Beethoven turned the composer into a protagonist and the symphony into a statement, directly paving the way for Romanticism and the idea of music as self-expression.

Fugues and Fortunes
Music, like life, twists and turns in patterns both deliberate and surprising. A fugue unfolds, each voice entering in turn, weaving complexity from simplicity—Bach’s invention, Haydn’s disciplined expansions, Mozart’s playful dialogue, Beethoven’s relentless drama. Every note carries intention, every harmony a subtle negotiation of tension and release. In this, there is a fortune of experience: insight into the human mind, the art of structure, and the thrill of discovery.
The “fortune” of these composers was not gold or fame, but mastery itself. They discovered worlds within sound, crafting forms that could endure centuries while still feeling immediate and alive. Listening to a symphony is stepping into a carefully built architecture, yet one that breathes, mutates, and converses with the listener. The patterns are intricate, the paths unpredictable, yet everything ultimately resonates as part of a larger whole.
To encounter their work is to recognize the wealth of creativity, discipline, and audacity it takes to shape a new musical world. Each fugue, each theme, each daring modulation is a small fortune, a testament to minds that lived entirely in pursuit of sound, structure, and the fleeting thrill of perfection.

This is an example page. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this:
Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my website. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.)
…or something like this:
